  • Shakespeare Alive!

CPS Shakespeare! is a transformational program at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) that invites CPS high school students and their teachers from across the city into our rehearsal room to create a completely original Shakespeare production. Through a five-week intensive rehearsal process under the guidance of a full team of professional CST artists, this intergenerational ensemble works together to prepare a fully designed production, culminating in two performances on Chicago Shakespeare’s mainstage in the Courtyard Theater. Students who complete this badge have demonstrated their understanding of text clues in Shakespeare, how the body and voice can be used as storytelling instruments and how an ensemble works together. They have improved their literacy skills and developed the skill of interpreting and embodying multiple characters. Throughout the program, they are challenged to take risks and to support their fellow ensemble members, empowering them to approach life’s off-stage challenges with an open mind, bravery and self-confidence.
