KLPE apprenticeships provide youth 14-21 with an opportunity to create interdisciplinary performance work.you will be involved in various authentic hip hop arts and culture activities that will expose you to art literacy and art making techniques while cultivating your critical analysis skills. Kuumba Lynx (KL) is an urban arts youth development organization committed to safe spaces that challenge students and their communities to deeply engage & listen, critically observe and react, and creatively speak with one another. KL presents, promotes, and preserves positive Hip Hop as a tool to reimagine and demonstrate a more just world. For almost two decades, KL, alongside many of Chicago’s artists, activists, educators, and youth communities, has honed WE GET FREE, an approach to urban education. The pedagogy encompasses urban literacy and is rooted in strengthening our social & cultural capital through exposure to opportunities, acquisition of arts making & literacy skills and exploration of ones identity & culture. KL utilizes performances, screenings, workshops, cultural events and publications as catalysts for youth and Hip Hop generation adults to build community and strengthen their future. The KL mission is achieved through a continuum of Hip Hop Arts and Activism programming shared throughout Chicago & the nation. Kuumba Lynx’s Hip Hop Arts Program (HHAP) is a continuum of sequential arts learning opportunities used as a palette for engaging a participants social emotional development, creative expression & critical dialogue. HHAP incorporates ritual, writing and freestyle ciphers fused with dance(HIP HOP, FOOTWORK), beat box, spoken word, music production, deejaying, graffitti & mural art, photography, video and more.
