Scientists for Tomorrow

Scientist for Tomorrow is an informal science after school program, educating urban youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The goal of the program is to encourage and educate participants in STEM career related fields. In the “Physics of Sound and Mathematics of Music ” module, participants will explore the science behind sound, discover the mathematical relationships that rule the production of sound and music, and build 3 musical instruments: a Pythagorean scale monochord; a four-key windchime; and an equal tempered scale tuned xylophone. If you are interested in participating contact your site/center/school resource coordinator or visit www.sftproject.org and www.scientistsfortomorrow.org Our youth programs are tailored to build upon the knowledge that your child receives during their standard school year. We design these programs to last ten weeks, meeting once per week for 90 minutes. They are created to be after school programs, meaning that these courses will never coincide with a child’s regular school schedule. Our programs utilize the first nine weeks to educate our participants in a stimulating and creative environment, after which we host a final Family Science Day in celebration of the many successes achieved by our participants during the program. This last week serves as a showcase where participants display the final product of their hard, and fantastic work.
